One of the West Sayville history writeups mentions having to jump on the hose to get a hard enough slug of water to trigger the target. Also notice dropping the extra length of hose as a donut.

Just a quick comment on this past months Memories photo. (and an excuse to bring this topic up to the top...)
Great picture of what is now a dinosaur.. A commercial chassis C-Truck. This would be a cool restoration.
Are there any commercial chassis C-Trucks left on L.I.?

Geek, if you're refering to June's pic, that's Blue Point's "dinosaur" B truck. Sorry for the poor quality but, I snapped it with a Kodak "Disk" camera. Took it at the 83 Suffolk Drill @ Patchogue 7/11/83.

Ooops! The Geek has been smoked! I thought that was an F1, not an F-5 B-Truck. Couldn't see any pump intake. Looks they were staging for B-Ladder. I should seen that. I do recall this was a pretty decent rig. What ever happened to that?
Regardless, I am pretty sure they had an F-1 C-Truck.
Just for giggles, my question remains: What was the last commercial chassis C-Truck to have run?
PS - Put that Kodak disc on E-Bay.... They bring stupid money!

Chasis or body? Just a guess, but maybe Alerts vega, or Lindy T-bird for the body??? Lake Placid had a cut up camaro for a while. Use of an actual truck - when did the Hicks last run their Ford C?

West--- The "hick's" old c was run up until mid '80's, but I am not certain that was original chassis. "Alerts" ran their "Vega" up until 1987, I believe. Sayville "Blue Jays" old "c" may have been the last, as late as '96. And Lindy's "T-bird" was 'til 1992, I guess. I know I have pics of all these in my stack of photos, but I don't have the time to scan and upload them right now.

I'm not sure that this will answer your question Geek but it is pretty cool info anyway. Sometime in the mid to late 60's the Highlanders drill team built a c truck out of a 1958 Ford panel truck. This truck was run through the 70's up until about 1976. The oversized Ford body and back were cut off and the chassis was re-used to build the next C which had the fiberglass Maverick nose and a lot less body in order to keep up with the times of lighter and faster c trucks. Any racing truck historian would remember the murals on each side of the big Maverick hood scoop that had Roslyn running C-ladder on one side and C-hose on the other. This truck ran until 1983. In the winter of 83/84 the Maverick nose was junked and the rest of the body was cut off once again salvaging the same chassis from the 58 Ford to be used on the next truck. To stay competitive the Highlanders had a smaller and lighter body built fresh with a new red paint job with yellow and orange stripes. This truck made its debut in 1984 and the Highlanders raced it until 1993. It was sold to the Merrick Buckeyes in the winter of 94 and then went on to Barnard where it is still being raced. Although always being a little heavy Roslyn always kept it competitive. So in closing the C truck that Barnard currently races has gone through three different body styles and about 40 years of racing. This has to be one of if not THE oldest c truck chassis to still be racing. A model was made of each of the trucks and the pics are on Joe Stemmler's model site. I have great pics of each truck. If I knew how to load pics on this post I would put them on. Oh well.

This months pictures are from the 1971 So. NY Drill at Rockville Centre, held on Saturday, June 12th.
The drill was scheduled to start at 10:00am, and of course, ran late due to water problems. The parade was scheduled to start at 7:00pm, and started even later to let the teams get there, after finishing buckets.
Great details of the reigning State Champs at the time..

notice in the b-ladder pic, that the driver has his head turned to see whats going on behind him. wonder if they lost their time like those teams did in the 2000 states.....stupid ass enforcement of a rule ! cost the knockers the drill......

Another great memory post - what happened to Highlanders B when the combined team went to using Rescue's B? Is it still a combined team, or all Roslyn Highlands now?
