I have finally settled on a format for posting the results, etc of drills from the past that are not currently on the Archive. Follow this link to the main folder: docs.google.com/folder/d/0B5B7pQeCMMPEeWcxY3RZaERmMzA/edit?usp=sharingAs I continue to post information you will find folders for each decade, each year in the decade, and then each drill within the year. This format will allow me to post not only the yearly overview but also the documents which I took the information from along with picture, stories, etc about each individual drill. Currently 1974 & 1979 are there. I will continue to add info and will post what is updated/added to this thread. I hope you enjoy seeing these as much as I have. Adam |

Added 1970, 71 & 72. None of these years have as much as 74 & 79 but interesting none the less. (Newsday's weekly printing of results kicked in in 73.)
Take a look and as always if you find an error, inconsistancy, or have more info which is missing please let me know.

1973 added. Missing complete results from Suffolk County drill & Islip Town. May be missing South Shore at Oyster Bay? A schedule shows a drill at Oyster Bay in August, I cannot find any other info about it. Anyone remember this?

If memory serves me right, the 1973 South Shore Drill was held in Inwood. I rmember VSFD's 75th Anniversay Parade & Drill; that was a huge old fashioned tournament.

That would make sense since Newsday listed both the Inwood and Lindenhurst as the Southern New York.

I have results from 1973 until 1979, when I ran with the Night Raiders. The drill in Oyster Bay was not run, not sure why. Giant hat email me and I can send you the results I have.

The 5th Battalion I think was won by Atlantic Steamers I know they ran it that year. I was there and have some pictures but they are not great. My friend Tim and some of his friend from Albertson filmed it for me. I have to get it put on DVD.

I am currently working on 1978. The schedule that was printed in Firenews shows the the 3rd Battalion Motorized Drill was scheduled for Sat Aug 5th and the 2nd Battalion Drill for Sunday the 6th. I am unable to locate any results for either of these drills. The Walbaums fire occurred on Aug 2nd. Am I correct in assuming that these 2 drills were cancelled due to the Walbaums fire & funerals?

1951 New York State Results 1951 NYS results Old Fulton NY Post Cards.pdf (789.77 KB) Unfortunately the numbers don't quite add up. According to these results the Top 5 is: Bay Shore 17 West Hempstead/East Meadow 16.5 Oyster Bay Rough Riders 16 Massapequa 8.5 Of course, West Hempstead won with 17.5 Can anyone else figure it out? |
