1981 at Lebonan valley Speedway. It shut down the drill for 3 hours until they could get a crane in, and put wheels on the portable arch, and roll it out of the way.

I remember the "nearby" racetrack being a Dirt track, alot of dust kicking up. I'm sure those old Knockers could fill us in.

The overhead photo looks like it is still a dirt track there. Looking at some of these sites, I can not believe what you guys ran on. Nobody running now should ever complain about the condition of a track again!
For those of you who were there, I know the Watertown course was by the baseball field, but where exactly? I currently have the site plotted just as the fairgrounds but would like to have the exact location.

During the last 2 drills, I believe the track was on the northern section of what is now William Field drive; the site layout may have been a little different. The Fairground Inn was at the end of the entry road tho. Lot of dust, no guard rails, just snow fence, pretty narrow track.

When Syracuse hosted the State Drill in 72' & 77', it was held at ESTA Safety Park, in Cicero.
It too was a Speedway.

Lebanon Valley Speedway is very much still in business. The highbank dirt track has some great racing every sat night. The drag strip is also equally busy on Sat and Sundays. The 1962 and 1967 state's were both held on Warehouse Row off of Fuller Road in the Town of Colonie, with the 1967 drill being completed at Lindenhurst after the arch collapsed.
