Ever wonder how some of the rules came about? While most of the rules pertaining to the trucks were adopted from NHRA, others found their way in the book in more of a REACTIVE response. Heres a funny story regarding one.
Rule 5.04B ENGINE/TRANSMISSION
NO BLOWERS, FUEL INJECTION OR TURBONIQUES ALLOWED.
TURBONIQUEs were thrust rockets originally used in military helicopters to aid in lift. Back in the 60's, my father having a "friendly" conversation with Wilbur Young said he was going to install one on the C Truck, again as a joke. Well, shortly after that, Wilbur who ran the rules committee had the rule put in, no TURBONIQUEs allowed!!
