Ever wonder how some of the rules came about? While most of the rules pertaining to the trucks were adopted from NHRA, others found their way in the book in more of a REACTIVE response. Heres a funny story regarding one. Rule 5.04B ENGINE/TRANSMISSION NO BLOWERS, FUEL INJECTION OR TURBONIQUES ALLOWED. TURBONIQUEs were thrust rockets originally used in military helicopters to aid in lift. Back in the 60's, my father having a "friendly" conversation with Wilbur Young said he was going to install one on the C Truck, again as a joke. Well, shortly after that, Wilbur who ran the rules committee had the rule put in, no TURBONIQUEs allowed!! You tube has some good videos of its use. www.tunersgroup.com/TunerWire_Live/Turbonique.html

Great read!! Another innovation stopped in it's development stages due to safety concerns. Love the part about the Turbonique Drag axle, a thermolene powered rocket nozzle mounted to the rear differential. At the push of a button an increase of 1300 HORSEPOWER!!!.
