Thank You Daytona Dave for these beautiful additions. We all but forgot about this article.
That is all-time great Bob Spillman running some left-handed nozzle for the Bangtails.
Two more all-time greats are at the hydrant in motor pump. That is a very young Jack Cloudman Sr, with Bumpy Bray throwing the handle for the Flukes.
It is also marks the first time that Point Lookout's old B-Truck makes the board. Anybody have an idea where that went?

Anybody got any info on that funky-looking timing device on the side of the arch? When it began service, how long it was in service, etc.?

Anybody got any info on that funky-looking timing device on the side of the arch? When it began service, how long it was in service, etc.? The analog 3 clock system was put into service about 1958. It was used until it was replaced with the digital timing system made for Nassau by Bob Citkovic of Lynbrook for the 1971 season.

That is very sad indeed, Merc. That stands as one of the best perfomances at a State Drill to this day.
We have been searching for a copy of that scorecard for the Archive for years.
The Rough Riders won 6 of the 8 events that day for an all-time high of 30 points. The only contests they did not win were 3 man ladder and motor pump. Not a bad day, huh?
