What's really interesting is the photo at the top cormer of their web site; it has what appears to be the 51/52 C, but also a nice looking 50s Ford B. Almost looks photo shopped gvein that the Class A trucks in the photo are so much older. Did Settlers ever run these? Nice looking "B" - wonder what happened to that?

As mentioned on Southold's old C truck, they were North Fork Champs several times. The North Fork Volunteer Firefighters Association sponsored an annual drill every summer. The drill would rotate amongst the departments within the Association. Those departments were Shelter Island, Shelter Island Heights, Orient, East Marion, Greenport, Southold, Cutchogue, Mattituck, Jamesport, Riverhead, Wading River, and Manorville. The drill was not affiliated at all with the County or State Association. The North Fork Association discontinued the drill when so few departments continued to participate after the 1994 season.
Although in the later years it was a six contest Old Fashion Drill, it is my understanding the annual event was originally motorized. The North Fork Association had their own officials. The contests were timed by hand with the starter throughing a switch on a light tree to indicate the start.
Southold won the drill in 1968, 1970, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1978, 1986, 1987, and 1994. Cutchogue won the drill in 1961, 1985, Co-Champs with Riverhead in 1991, and 1993. I believe Mattituck had tied Riverhead once, and also won the drill in 1979. To my knowledge, Riverhead dominated the other years with Greenport possibly winning it a couple of times. But I am really not sure. I don't believe there are any official records anywhere.
Old Fashion was very strong on the North Fork from the mid 70's until the mid 90's. Southold, Cutchogue, and Riverhead combined to win 8 out of the last 10 Suffolk County Old Fashion Drills. The Suffolk County Old Fashion Drill was held in conjunction with the County Motorized Drill. The last combined County tournament was hosted by Selden in 1994.
Many people may remember the night drills that were hosted by Southold and Cutchogue. Both started the night off with a parade at 6pm, and then the drill under the lights afterwards. Mattituck hosted a sanctioned Old Fashion Drill in the parking lot of a local beach for a couple of years in the 80's, Greenport hosted the Southern N.Y. motorized drill in the 70's, and Riverhead still hosts their invite today.
Unfortunately, except for Cutchogue and Riverhead, drill teams have gone by the wayside on the North Fork. In fact, Greenport, Southold, and Mattituck have all taken their Arch's down in the last 10 years. The North Fork Association still exists, but the likeliness of the drill ever returning is highly improbable.
The team nicknames were:
Orient Closet Drinkers Greenport Shuckers & then East End Gang Southold First Settlers Cutchogue Panthers Mattituck Bulldogs Jamesport Rovers Riverhead Ironmen Wading River Intruders Manorville Punk Hole Raiders

P.S. it does run the problem is the guy you were there with never ran on or drove her. He just took an interest in helping fix the rear tires and put some elbow grease on her. Don Casey is heading up the refurb and FYI he was the original builder of her in his cellar and knows her better than anyone.

This may be the last time the Mohawk C saw the track at a sanctioned drill.
