One of our respected contributors, SimplyMarvelous, has written the following: " I am trying to figure out exactly when and where that tournament was ... someone had commented in the thread that it was the mid to late 60's; but that can't be possible, the Gremlins stopped running in 1963/64 ... so it was a little earlier than that. I am kind of thinking that this is the Hicksville Labor Day Drill from 1960 ... why am I leaning towards that ? --> the Gremlins normally wore black uniforms with white writing ... the picture that is shown has them in a white uniform ... my 1960 Riverhead State Tournament photos has them in white uniforms (In 62 - back in black, 63 - black again) ... this could be the same year, but the location remains a mystery ... I am guessing Hicksville; also it looks like what could be the construction of the Broadway Mall in the background .. I know that Hicksville ran the tourney there even in the late 50's / early 60's..." Good logic here. You can find that the Gremlins wore black in 1961 from the photo of them in Floral Park running motor pump. We also know that this is pre-1962 because the exposed moving engine parts rule had not yet been passed. A great era where Hot Rodding meets Fire Tournaments!
