I have a two part question? 1) What teams once raced motorized and what year did they stop racing? 2) what tracks are no longer around and what year did they shut them down?

I got an answer for both parts. 1) Amityville "Villians" 1987 last season 2) Amityville beach (dormant track)

Albion "Fire Flies" 1959 - '95 Albion F.D. still has a dormant track, but no trucks, and not enough interest.

Southold has a track that is all gwown over with weeds. The old Mattitick track is gone.
Huntington Manor had a practice track along the railroad that burned down about 10 years ago.

Actually, southold no longer has a track, the arch was taken down just this past year to make room for a new parking lot.
The first settlers were last seen I think in 1997 in Cutchogue's annaul OF Tournament.

Actually, that's the track in Greenport on Moores Lane across from Greenport HS. I think it's part of a village park and, GFD still holds their carnival on those grounds. If memory serves me correctly, the track and grounds used to be called "the Polo Grounds".

Oceanside "Sailors" 1948-? Oceanside "Mariners" 1969-? Oceanside "Misfits" 1994-1998?
and various old fashioned teams
I think Oceanside is the only place you can go and find guys who have raced on 4 or 5 different teams, with the SAME DEPARTMENT.

Teams that have come and gone in Western with Tracks that I can think of are:
Ontario "Wildcats" -- 40's 50's - 60's There arch was still up into the 90's and Sea Breeze used to practice there.
North Bailey "Jaguars"-- 50's- 60's -70's, Not sure if track is still there or not.
Sheridan Park "All Thumbs" 50's- 60's- 70's Had a track in a park with a big slide nearby, now all gone
Sea Breeze "Indians" Still running but track was lost during a lull in running during the mid 80's. Was a great track with a long history that started back in the late 30's when they ran west to east then in the early 60's it was changed to run South to North along side a Roller Coaster. A lot of Long Island teams ran on that track including, Port Washington's many teams, Rough Riders, Syosset, Hicksville, and a couple of the Hempstead Teams also. We have some of these on 16mm film.
A little history back when it was called the "Monroe County Drill Team Captains Association before Main Transit and the other Buffalo area teams started there was only 3 Permanent tracks in the area. Sea Breeze, Ontario, & Albion

Huntington Manor now has a town track with a permanent arch in Dix Hills. Mattituck still has their aech by the beach. Southold's track was next to their firehouse and the arch has been taken down last time I looked. Nesconset had a arch behind their mainhouse in the 60's through 80's taken down after they got rid of their b truck(unknown as to where?) that was Hauppauge's at one time Sag Harbor still has track with covered grandstands!!(good idea by the way, looks like a small stadium) all the info. about their teams is in their Firehouse museum in town. CenterMoriches arch on side of firehouse gone. Islip Terrace's old track on Beaverdam rd. gone(remember Labor day's there) , now have a junior's and leg event track on FD grounds neighbors complain about the trucks if they practice there.

Terrace no longer on Beaverdam Road, but the speakers on the poles and the lines on the pavement as ell as the patch are still there, arch removed and new arch on the FD property. East Islip track on Railroad avenue, lines still there, timber from the removed arch on the railroad property.
Speaking of EI, Historian, didn't Bay Shore get a rerun one year because Harry couldn't hear anybody on the tailboard say they were ready when the train suddenly went by with the horn at the Great River station so he went anyway and left a guy or two at the starting line?

That might be the beach at Jamesport. Last summer there was an arch there. Could be the Rovers old track??

Mattituck's track was at "Veterans Park" at the Eastern end of Peconic Bay Blvd. right on the beach of the Peconic Bay Their arch has been down for a few years. Seemed they always had a great turnout for their OF drills(hardly a time when they didn't have 30 or more OF & Motorized teams compete). Jamesports track was at the Riverhead Town boat ramp parking lot also on Peconic Bay Blvd. Their arch has been down for almost 10 years. If memory serves me, the last drill in Jamesport was the old North Fork drill in I believe 1983.
